Blackdown Shepherd Huts work out of Ilminster, near Taunton in Somerset and create extremely high quality handcrafted bespoke and custom made shepherds huts using tradtional methods.

Our Story
2016 epiphany
Found 'the good life' when we took the plunge to leave London and discovered the Old Rectory House, a grand country house in a truly wonderful location in a beautiful location with wonderful views - the dream property.
Our aspiration
Our aim was to provide a luxury farm stay so that guests could enjoy the beautiful surroundings and high quality produce. Dilapidated outbuildings have been renovated and transformed to create a stunning cottage. Two luxury shepherd huts, built by Blackdown Shepherd Huts, have expanded our accommodation offerings.
Our vision
2023 brought another shepherd hut to the property together with a spa and wellness retreat whose home is the previously converted cottage.
Land Management
Careful and constant management of our land through the planting of a wildflower meadow providing a haven for wildlife and pollinating insects. After installation of shepherd huts, over 500 native shrubs and trees were planted lessening the environmental impact.
Livestock
We practice high welfare and low intensity on our smallholding and currently run a flock of Herdwick sheep, Gloucester Old Spot pigs and free range chickens. Our sheep graze naturally, Our pigs free range in their own woodland copse, a real home to home for them..............
Consumables
We offer all guests a range of consumable items and products, sourced locally where possible. Our wood-fired hot tubs, wood burners and fire pits are made from the waste dust and shavings from the wood industry. All the bottles//toiletries in the shepherd huts are refillable and use recycled packaging.
Recycling
We try to make it as easy as possible for them to recvycle whilst respecting that they are on holiday.
Respecting our village
We ask our gusts to respect our beautiful surroundings. With limited pedestrian pathways in the vicinity of Old Rectory House, there are many walkers, horses, dogs and livestock on the local lane so please respect these and keep speed to a minimum when driving.
Local Produce
We champion Somerset's produce and the local suppliers. Welcome packs and the stock in our fantastic Pantry shop are sourced locally - wherever possible.
Charity
We support our local food bank as we recognise the important role that this food bank plays in supporting the local community. We also recognise the importance of larger golbal wildlife issues in addition to encouraging local wildlife and as such are proud donors to the World Wildlife Fund.

Electric vehiccles seem to be the way forward and as such, charging points will be installed soon, leading hopefully to more green journeys when visiting us

Handmade in Somerset by the master craftsmen at Blackdown Shepherd Huts, all our huts have stunning interiors, an ensuite bathroom, wonderful sea views and their own private wood-fired hot tub. We believe this is glamping with a twist - as we offer the luxury of a 5 star hotel!
All the hut guests can have access to our spa facilities including the heated, outdoor pool and sauna.
